USDA approved NYS for Pandemic EBT.

Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) provides nutritional resources to families who have lost access to free or reduced-price school meals due to school closures. Families will receive money on a new or existing EBT card to help fill the school meals gap. The average benefit will be $5.70/day per student, retroactive to when school initially closed.

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance and the New York State Education Department will issue P-EBT benefits to current Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) households and non-SNAP households, which include children eligible for free and reduced price school meals, through the State’s SNAP EBT card system. The State estimates that it will issue $369.5 million to 448,500 SNAP and Public Assistance households and $347.6 million to 824,000 non-SNAP/PA children for school closures extending from March 16, 2020 through June 25, 2020 a total of 74 days.

Hunger Solutions NY will be leading a call on Thursday with OTDA to discuss messaging, outreach strategies, and how we can best work together to educate families and fellow child nutrition advocates about this important benefit.
