Gas Pipelines: What Municipalities Need to Know - Forum May 17

Twenty interstate natural gas pipeline systems now crisscross the Northeast from West Virginia to Maine. As shale drilling operations expand in the coming years, thousands of miles of new pipeline will be needed to connect existing pipelines to new gas wells.

A free public forum, “Gas Pipelines: What Municipalities Need to Know,” will address issues related to future gas pipeline development. The forum is co-sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County and the Tompkins County Council of Governments.

Topics to be covered include: differences between gathering, transmission, and distribution pipelines; agency jurisdictions; how pipelines are permitted, regulated, and monitored; and how municipalities can prepare for an increase in pipeline networks. The forum will be held on Thursday, May 17 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Borg Warner Room, Tompkins Public Library, 101 E. Green Street in Ithaca.

Scheduled presenters include: Sharon Anderson, Environmental Program Leader, Cornell Cooperative Extension Tompkins County; Jim Austin, Environmental Certification and Compliance, State of New York Department of Public Service; Deborah Goldberg, Managing Attorney, Earthjustice Northeast Regional Office; and Meghan Thoreau, Planner, Southern Tier Central Regional Planning and Development Board.

For more information visit http://ccetompkins.org/calendar/12/04/25/gas-pipeline-forum or contact Sharon Anderson, ska2@cornell.edu, (607) 272-2292.

Starting April 1, 2012, the Town of Dryden will be conducting an enumeration. The dog enumerator will visit ALL residences in the town to identify the number of dogs at each. Owners will be required to license their dog(s) within 20 days of being notified and will be charged a $7 enumeration fee in addition to the regular licensing fee.

Licensing your dog is the law in New York State and is an excellent way to help the dog control officer return your lost dog to you. Because proof of rabies vaccination is required prior to obtaining a license, it also helps keep our community and pets safer.

Dogs four months of age and older are required to have a license. In the Town of Dryden, the yearly license fee for a spayed or neutered dog is $11.00, and $23.00 for a dog that is not spayed or neutered.

Download the form here.

Are you new to the Town of Dryden? Not sure when your recycling goes out, who picks up your garbage, or what fire district you're in?

Much of this information, you can get from the Tompkins County Solid Waste website . There is a recycling schedule and a list of vendors who provide garbage pickup services.

Of course, if you live IN one of the villages (Freeville or Dryden), you should contact your Village office to answer some of these questions.

Another great place for information is 211 - Tompkins County's Information & Referral Center.

Many of the local fire departments also have their own websites and you can find answers to some of your questions there.

**Need help finding your way around town head over to the Maps of Dryden page**

If there are other questions you would like answered, please call the Town Clerk's Office at (607) 844-8888 x3 or email us and we will be glad to add information to this post.
