		<title>Conservation Board Member Needed</title>
		<description><![CDATA[Town of Dryden Seeks Conservation Board Member

The Town of Dryden Conservation Board (CB) is a body of resident volunteers which provides assistance to town officials and staff on environmental aspects of local planning and decision making. The CB recently completed an Open Space Inventory for the town, and continues to be involved in activities related to protection of water resources, unique natural areas, biodiversity, and local agriculture. In addition, the CB also helps with environmental review of larger development projects in the town.

The Dryden Conservation Board is currently seeking an additional member.  Interested residents with relevant experience and enthusiasm for working on local environmental issues are encouraged to contact Jane Nicholson, Town Planner, at 607-844-8888 x213.   Appointment is for a three year term and applicants must be over the age of 16, residing in the Town of Dryden, Village of Dryden, or Village of Freeville.  CB meetings are open to the public and are held at 7:30 p.m. on the last Tuesday of the month in the Dryden Town Hall. 		<title>Energy Coordinator</title>
		<description><![CDATA[<strong>The Energy Coordinator is a grant funded position through the New York State Energy Research Development Authority (NYSERDA) and works with six towns in Tompkins County to further energy savings in their municipal operations.</strong>

Energy Coordinator Work Plan:

This position was created in response to a declared need by the towns of a dedicated individual who possessed the skills and training necessary to coordinate and manage energy projects which the municipalities did not have the time or expertise to manage themselves.

Specifically the Energy Coordinator is working to achieve the tasks listed below:


Coordinator Energy Projects:

    Facilitate technical assessments and audits for town and community facilities
    Summarize, analyze, and recommend cost-effective approaches to achieve energy reductions and conversion to renewable energy
    Coordinate implementation of recommendations of energy audits and oversee long-term viability of energy projects
    Coordinate evaluations of potential for renewable energy at town-owned facilities and important community organization facilities, including wind, solar thermal, solar electric, high efficiency indoor boilers, geothermal, and biomass (wood chip or pellet) furnace

Develop Peer to Peer Collaboration:

    Develop mechanisms to share energy reduction and conversion measures with other municipalities.
    Facilitate inter-municipal meetings to share of energy reduction and conversion strategies.

Conduct Direct Implementation:

    Benchmark energy consumption to establish a baseline, where applicable
    Educate staff about how their behaviors affect energy use
    Train staff on low-cost and no-cost energy reduction measures.

Much of this information, you can get from the Tompkins County Solid Waste <a href="http://www.recycletompkins.org/" target="new"> website </a>. There is a recycling schedule and a list of vendors who provide garbage pickup services.

Of course, if you live IN one of the villages (<a href="http://freevilleny.org/" target="new">Freeville</a> or <a href="http://www.dryden-ny.org/" target="new">Dryden</a>), you should contact your Village office to answer some of these questions.

Many of the local <a href="http://dryden.ny.us/information/local-fire-departments" target="new">fire departments</a> also have their own websites and you can find answers to some of your questions there.
