The Department of Public Works is responsible for maintaining Town water districts, sewer districts, Town parks, Jim Schug Trail & Freeville – Dryden  Trail, Town buildings & grounds maintenance, old cemeteries, Virgil Creek Stabilization Project, and the Dr. Donald H. Crispell Flood Control Project.

In 2009 the following work was completed : Energy audit recommendation improvements including ( Replaced T12 lighting withT8 lighting, converted all thermostats to programmable thermostats, replaced 80% efficient boiler in Highway / DPW Office building with 93% efficient boiler adding two zones to replace electric baseboard heat, replaced 80 gallon water heater in Highway / DPW garage with 20 gallon and relocated for better efficiency, replaced 30 gallon hotwater heater in Highway / DPW office building with 10 gallon hot water heater ), Converted old office space in to employee break room & converted electric base board heat to natural gas. Converted old employee break room to employee locker room. Finished pouring concrete floor in remaining half of DPW addition. Finished installing wooden shelves in Highway / DPW office building safe for archive files. Remodeled front foyer in to useable office space in Highway / DPW office building. Highway / DPW office building fire alarm system was upgraded with additional smoke detectors, strobe lighting, & pull box relocation. Rusted metal siding on east side of Highway/DPW garage was replaced. Painted second coat of paint on Highway / DPW garage metal siding. Replaced 120′ of storm drainage pipe on North end of Highway / DPW garage. Paved floor in salt/sand storage building with blacktop.  Planted a total of 50 spruce trees along emergency access driveway to Town Hall and on west side of Fuel building. At 85 East Main Street ( former Tuttle property ) seeded & mulched area where house was demolished. Continued former Tuttle barn project. Serviced generator to Beam Hill Radio Tower. Cut trees & brush along access drive to VanNortwick Cemetery including brush & fallen tree in cemetery. The damage to the outhouse at Dryden Lake Park was repaired including replacing the old plastic tank with an enclosed concrete tank. Regular maintnenance & cleaning was performed at the Town Hall. Snyder Hill Road meter pit was eliminated. NYSEG / Town water tanks were inspected. Water main break repairs, town buildings and grounds maintenance, Dryden Lake Park and Trail maintenance, other cemetery maintenance, Donald H. Crispell Flood Control Project maintenance were continued. The DPW assisted the Highway Department with various road projects, assisted Highway Department with snow removal on Town Roads, assisted Dryden Recreation Department with Dryden Old Home Day, assisted Dryden Environmental Planner with aquifer study well for potential additional source of water to supply the Village of Dryden and possible nearby Town residents.

2010 work project goals are : Complete final section of paving on North end of Highway Garage. Install Highway / DPW sign in front of Highway / DPW office building. Install Town Hall sign. Install plaque on rock identifying Old Dryden Fair site in front of Highway / DPW garage. Eliminate one electric meter to Highway / DPW office building. Upgrade fire alarm system in Highway / DPW garage. Remove small section of curbing & install drainage tile on north end of Town Hall parking lot. Paint Town Hall offices. Install flag pole lighting at Town Hall. Relocate small pavillion at Dryden Lake Park and construct larger pavillion in it’s place. Repave Dryden Lake Park driveway entrances. Repair old railroad tressle bridge off from Keith Lane. Water & sewer district repairs & maintenance including replacing corroded bolts with stainless steel bolts at Varna pump station. Old cemetery maintenance. Clean out weirs at Virgil Creek Dam. Repairs to rock vanes in the Virgil Creek Stabilization & Relocation Project.
