Workshop - Planning for Extreme Weather

Workshop - Planning for Extreme Weather

February 13, 2024

Hybrid Meeting

The Climate Smart Communities Task Force will host a workshop on preparing Dryden for extreme weather events from 5-7 pm, Tuesday February 13, in the Town Hall Courtroom and via Zoom.

To register, please click here: https://ccetompkins.wufoo.com/forms/zc224pk1s1ltha/ (those who want to attend via Zoom will receive the link after registering).

The participatory workshop, led by Jerry Sheng of Cornell Cooperative Extension,  will be based in part on more than 100 responses to the fall 2023 survey about critical assets and resources the town wants to protect.  Key stakeholders are invited to offer insights and feedback on how to adapt for and respond to floods, drought, severe storms and extreme temperatures in the town and villages.

The town wants to hear from fire and emergency responders, village officials, advisory board members, educators and interested residents.

Results of workshop participation will be used to create a Climate Change Adaptation and Resiliency Plan (CCARP) for the town.

Completion of the plan by the end of the summer, along with other actions the town has undertaken to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, will help make Dryden eligible for a competitive grant of $225,000 from the NYS Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA).
